carolina all-spice sapling

$20.00

carolina all-spice (calycanthus floridus) - native to south-eastern turtle island, found in shady woodlands often alongside rivers and streams. a deciduous shrub, bushing out at around 8ft tall and 6ft wide, with lovely rich red flowers that are said to smell of apples. the plant itself is highly fragrant, the bark smells of cinnamon and the roots and leaves have more of a camphor scent. there seems to be some discussion in regards to toxicity, so we don’t recommend using the plant, as parts of it can be quite poisonous to some. still, it makes a lovely ornamental plant and it’s definitely worth doing your own research about it.

hardiness zone - 5-10

saplings are currently 1-2ft tall

** all trees will be sold as bare root saplings in march/april AND oct/nov by pre-order only.

pick-up available in phinneys cove, NS /mi’kma’ki or shipped out by canada post (only in canada)
