chinese x american chestnut (castanea mollissima x dentata) - a fast growing & vigorous deciduous tree, reaching heights of up to 60ft tall. begins producing nuts around 5 years of age. nuts are sweet and tasty & can be roasted, boiled, baked or ground for flour. less fatty than most nuts. rot resistant straight growing lumber. needs full sun, prefers well-drained, slightly acid soil. can tolerate clay soils & drought once established.

bred to resist the chestnut blight that decimated the native chestnuts in america.

zone hardiness 4-8

*need at least two to ensure pollination
** all trees will be sold as bare root saplings in march/april AND oct/nov by pre-order only.
