prunus virginiana - native to northern turtle island, this small deciduous tree tops out at about 25ft tall maximum. native to prairies, woodlands and river banks.white fragrant flowers in the spring time, with small clusters of red black to purple-ish fruits in late summer. will spread by root. will thrive in full sun or part shade, prefers moist, well-drained soils. the raw fruit is quite astringent but has been used for jams, jellies, wines & syrups. plains tribes mixed chokecherries with bison fat to make pemmican. other parts of the plant have medicinal attributes. extremely cold hardy, hardiness zone 2-7

currently 1-3 ft tall

** all trees will be sold as bare root saplings in march/april AND oct/nov by pre-order only.
pick-up available in phinneys cove, NS /mi’kma’ki or shipped out by canada post (only in canada)
