eastern sand cherry

eastern sand cherry (prunus pumila) - native to north eastern turtle island (north america), the eastern sand cherry is a small shrub, topping out at about 3ft tall at maturity. it flowers in may, and the fruits are ripe in late august to early september. said to be the largest of the native cherries, the fruit are up to 10mm in diameter. can be eaten as is, dried or used in preserves. it’s very hardy, thriving best in full sun but tolerating sand, gravel and rough soil (but cannot tolerate being in poorly draining or soggy soil, as they will rot).

hardiness zone - 3-8

currently 1-2ft tall

** all trees will be sold as bare root saplings by pre-order only in march/april & oct/nov.

pick-up available in phinneys cove, NS /mi’kma’ki or shipped out by canada post (only in canada)
