goumi sapling

$18.00

elaeagnus multiflora - native to eastern asia, found in woodlands and forest edges. goumi is a beautiful, silver leafed deciduous shrub growing up to ten ft tall & wide. the flowers are small & white along the branches & open in late spring. the berries come in late summer & are red & juicy with tiny silver flecks (similar to autumn olive). they are eaten raw, cooked into preserves, used for fruit leather & wine. they are quite tasty & full of nutrients & vitamins. the roots of the goumi are nitrogen fixing, so can be incorporated into food forest or guild plantings for that intention. prefers full sun but will tolerate part-sun. prefers well-drained soils but will tolerate poor conditions and is drought resistant once established. hardiness zone 4-9

** does not necessarily need a pollinator but having at least TWO planted increases the fruit yield & size & consistency of fruit.

currently 1ft tall

** all trees will be sold as bare root saplings in march/april AND oct/nov by pre-order only.
pick-up available in phinneys cove, NS /mi’kma’ki or shipped out by canada post (only in canada)
