hardy rubber tree or chinese rubber tree (eucommia ulmoides) is a deciduous tree native to china. known for its elastic sap, which has properties similar to natural rubber. the wood has been used traditionally in furniture making, and the leaves are used the bark, leaves and seeds are said to be used medicinally. it is considered to be one of the fifty fundamental traditional chinese herbs, used for promoting longevity and strengthening the back & kidneys (among other traditional uses).

the tree typically grows up to 60ft tall, with glossy leaves and is considered a fast growing and hardy tree. it prefers well-drained soil, ample sunlight and sufficient moisture especially in the early stages of growth.

hardiness zone 4-9
