jostaberry (ribes x) - a thornless, hybrid fruit that was created by crossing gooseberry & blackcurrant plants. a vigorous, easy growing shrub reaching heights of 6-8ft tall (and wide). the berries grow in small clusters and are quite large (similar in size to grapes). they are rich in flavour and an exciting & easy keeping fruit bush to incorporate into a garden or homestead. the berries can be used similarly to currants (preserves, wine, etc), or enjoyed eaten fresh. they’re self-fertile so don’t require a pollinator.
