(sambucus canadensis) - wild black elderberry, or american elder is a tall growing, bunching out perennial food & medicine plant. native to north america. growing up to 13’ tall, elder prefers moist soil, but will tolerate part shade and a variety of soils. the flowers are used in herbal medicine for fever as well as topically, berries are well known for elderberry syrup for anti-viral immune system support. much folklore surrounds the elder, and is said to protect the home when planted nearby. hardiness zone - 3-9
