red raspberry (rubus idaeus) is a welcome addition to any perennial garden. a fairly tenacious & hardy shrub, the canes grow up to 5ft tall, with arching branches that can be contained and pruned as necessary. the leaves are green on the top and silvery underneath, and are used in herbal medicine, and make a nice iced tea or fresh warm tea. the plants bear red to dark red juicy, sweet berries beloved by many, used for reserves, desserts, fruit salads, and many more, if you can keep from eating them all fresh off the bush! produces a large crop of berries in the summer, and a small crop later in the fall.
