schisandra chinensis - the five flavored berry, heralded for its use in traditional chinese medicine, as well as western medicine as an adaptogen. schisandra is a woody vine in the magnolia family, native to the forests of china & japan. plants prefer dappled shade and can grow over 20 ft tall/long. the berries are sour and complex in taste and make lovely herbal syrup, juices, wines & tinctures. plants require both male & female companions to fruit.

hardy to zone 4

*these seeds have begun the germination process, and need to stay cold and damp until spring. they can be kept in the fridge with a moist paper towel or sawdust. they can be planted out once the ground has thawed, in pots or direct seeded.
