shellbark hickory (carya laciniosa) - a medium to large, long-lived deciduous tree growing up to 80ft tall. nuts are oval and sweet, similar in taste to pecan but supposedly sweeter. native to parts of north eastern turtle island (north america). soil tolerant, but thrives in moist, well-drained soils often found in river bottoms and alongside rocky streams.
hardiness zone - 5-9

Currently 6-8 inches
