teasel seed
dipsacus sativus (or fullers teasel) - a tall growing perennial/biennual medicinal with spikey flowers. tolerates most soil conditions, including clay, but requires part to full sun. the flowers bloom with small purple petals around mid to late summer & attract a surprising amount of pollinators. birds and other critters seem to enjoy the seed pods later in the season as well.
teasel spends the first year developing a rosette of lush, spikey leaves, and will flower in its second year. once established, teasel forms a dense clump. if you don’t want it to spread by seed simply cut the flower heads when they are finished flowering.
the root has shown promising use in fighting lyme disease & co-infections, and is (in our humble opinion) and excellent plant to add to your apocalpyse garden.
hardiness zone - 4-8
